How TeamBuyIn Works

How does TeamBuyIn work? How do you use TeamBuyIn?

Getting Started

TeamBuyIn automates commission tracking at the service item level, pulling job data directly from your FSM and calculating payouts in real time. This article walks you through everything you need to do to get up and running and build a Performance Pay culture that sticks.

Step 1 -- Connect Your FSM

TeamBuyIn connects directly to Housecall Pro or Jobber. Once connected, your jobs, service items, and team members sync automatically. You won't need to enter anything manually.

See Connect with Housecall Pro or Connect with Jobber for setup instructions.

Step 2 -- Set Up Your Team

Your team members sync automatically from your FSM. From there, activate the ones who should have access to TeamBuyIn and set their commission eligibility.

Step 3 -- Configure Your Service List

Before commissions can calculate, every service item in your catalog needs a payout rule. Set each one to Fixed Rate, Top Line, or Bottom Line, and toggle on Commissionable by Default for any service that should always generate a payout. If you have a large catalog, use Bulk Edit to update payout type, commission amount, commissionable by default, and upsell by default across multiple items at once. For any service item that doesn't have a rule set, your Global Commission Default acts as the fallback.

Step 4 -- Review Your First Job

Once a job completes in your FSM, it syncs to TeamBuyIn and lands in your Pending queue with commissions already calculated. Open the job, verify the payouts look right, make any adjustments, and approve it. That's the core workflow you'll run every day.

Step 5 -- Build a Daily Review Habit

The biggest risk with commission tracking is letting jobs pile up unreviewed. Two five-minute windows a day, once before lunch and once before end of day, is enough to stay on top of it. Use Set Job Review Date Ranges to filter your queue to the window you want to work through.

Step 6 -- Onboard Your Best Technician

Once your commission structure is dialed in, activate your top technician in TeamBuyIn. Walk them through how their payout is calculated, show them the leaderboard, and show them their scorecard. Technicians who can see their earnings in real time are more motivated and less likely to dispute payouts.

Step 7 -- Run Your First Payroll Export

At the end of your first pay period, export your payout data from the Dashboard. Use the Performance Pay report for totals by technician, or the Accounting report if your bookkeeper needs a line-by-line breakdown.

Step 8 -- Hold Your First Performance Pay Meeting

Bring your team together and make a show of the commissions your top technician earned. Make it visible, make it a big deal, and then give the rest of your team access to TeamBuyIn. Tommy Mello suggests ordering a giant check from Amazon because it gets the team fired up and shows everyone that Performance Pay is real.
